Third Grade at Marcy Elementary
The third grade is a bridge between introductory skills taught in the primary grades and skills to be learned in the intermediate grades. Some of the focal points of third grade are:
- In Math, multiplication and division are introduced and manipulatives are used to strengthen understanding of numbers in the thousands period.
- In English Language Arts, emphasis is on improving reading, writing, and listening skills through the use of the Reading Street Series, trade books, NYS Common Core Ready Books, and other resources like readworks.org
- In Science, third grade curriculum centers on the study of life cycles, measuring and collecting data in weather, and the water cycle.
- In Social Studies, the emphasis is on map skills and comparing/contrasting various world communities with life in the United States.
