District COVID-19 Testing

  • 1/15/21

Once again, our school district is preparing to begin testing staff and students attending in-person learning for COVID-19 as our district has been placed in a yellow zone as determined by New York State.  Schools in a yellow zone must test 20% of students and staff within a two (2) week period following this designation in order to maintain in-person learning.  Our plan is to begin testing students on Saturday, January 23 prior to our planned return to in-person learning on Monday, January 25.

All appointments must be made online, and are reserved on a first-come, first-served basis.  One appointment must be reserved for each student.  Due to our limited testing supplies, no walk-ins will be accepted.  Testing sites are not open to the general public.

To reserve an appointment for your child, please click the link for your child's school below.  Please reserve one appointment per child.

In order for your child to be tested, we will also need a consent form signed by a parent/guardian.  If you wish to complete the consent form ahead of time, please print it, complete the required information and sign it.  You and/or your child will present it when they are tested.  Otherwise, copies of the consent form will be provided at the testing site and can be completed prior to testing.  If you do not consent to having your child tested, or your child is fully remote, no action on your part is needed at this time.

Our registered school nurses will be administering the tests and have received training in the procedure.  We encourage parents/guardians to be present when their child is tested.  Students (and parents/guardians if present) will be screened prior to testing, using the green screening slips along with a temperature check.  Students must be asymptomatic in order to receive a test, and must not have received a positive COVID-19 test within the past 90 days.  Once the student has been tested, he/she will leave the building.  Due to the extensive reporting requirements for NY State, parents/guardians will be notified of the test results by the end of the day.

The test is a minimally invasive nasal swab test in which the swab is inserted into the nostrils less than 1 inch.  It is a rapid antigen test, and produces a result in 15 minutes.  A short video demonstrating the test can be found here.

Parents/Guardians also have the option of having their child tested at a designated testing site or medical office and provide a copy of the results to their child’s school nurse via fax, email, mail or drop it off at school.  If you exercise this option and your child tests positive, please notify the school nurse.  The test must be administered on or after January 23 and before February 5 in order for it to be counted as a part of our required number of students to be tested.  The results of those tests will need to be received by us on or before February 5.  We encourage you to contact your healthcare provider or your insurance company to determine if there is any cost to you.

Thank you very much for your anticipated cooperation.

After a careful and thorough review of all the information available, we will continue fully-remote learning consistent with the recommendation of the Oneida County Executive. We plan to resume hybrid learning (combination of in-person and remote learning) on Monday, January 25.

Additionally, student COVID-19 testing scheduled for Saturday, January 9, has been cancelled.  Student testing will be rescheduled at a future date. Additional information regarding COVID-19 testing will be communicated once details are finalized.
