Marcy Postcard Exchange Project
-
Marcy fourth graders have been learning about their diverse world one postcard at a time.
Over the summer, we connected with hundreds of individuals via Postcrossing.com, a postcard exchange website that allows people to connect and send postcards anywhere in the world.
With just a simple post about our idea to collect postcards from as many places around the globe as possible, we have received about 300 since school began!
Some have come from the U.S., while many others have come from as far as Australia, Japan, Singapore, Brazil and India, just to name a few.
In total, we have received cards from about 30 countries and almost all of the U.S states (and counting!).
After reading each postcard, we plotted locations on maps and learned more about each place through Google Earth and more.
In December, fourth-graders got to respond to some of our senders by writing and sending their own postcards!
We have loved this unique experience, and have had so much fun learning about our world through this real-world project.
