The Whitesboro Central School District presented its 2025 District Art Show on May 9 in the high school auditorium, an event dedicated to recognizing the artistic achievements of our students.

The districtwide exhibition featured works by students in kindergarten through 12th grade. An awards ceremony, held prior to the show's opening, formally acknowledged exceptional student art with various accolades, including Principal Awards presented by building administrators and art teachers, as well as special and Scholastic Awards.

The well-attended show underscored the value placed on student artistic endeavors and symbolized the successful conclusion of the academic year for the arts. The sustained effort and commitment from students and the entire school community are instrumental in upholding our District's leading arts program.

Collaborative Elementary, Middle School, and High School Project based on "Where the Wild Things Are"

There are multiple stages to artistic development.  Dr. Viktor Lowenfeld in his book Creative and Mental Growth, categorizes them as: Scribble, Pre-Schematic, Schematic, Dawning Realism, Pseudo-Naturalistic, and the Decision Stage. In a cross level collaborative project inspired by Maurice Sendak’s classical book, Where the Wild Things Are. Our elementary students started the project by creating their own monsters inspired by the book. The drawings were then shared with our middle school students. They used them as inspiration to create their own 3-D ceramic sculptures. Finally, digital or traditional drawings were created by our high school students based upon the middle school sculptures. We appreciate that our students were inspired by Mr. Sendak and each other. Having the students cultivate their ideas to empower them artistically has made this a rewarding experience.
