Kindergarten

Your child's Library report card contains three benchmark skill categories: Information Literacy, Media Literacy (Technology) and the Ability to Use the Library Media Center. These Library benchmark skills are part of the new Empire Information Fluency Continuum and the New York State Common Core Learning Standards.

Information Literacy

  • Demonstrates simple organizational skills such as sorting and categorizing.
  • Distinguishes between fiction and non-fiction materials.
  • Presents facts and simple answers to questions
  • Connects ideas to own interests

Media Literacy (Technology)

  • Demonstrates basic understanding of the use of computer hardware and software.
  • Navigates electronic resources with guidance to find answers to questions posed by teacher.

Ability to Use Library Media Center

  • Understands the basic organizational structure of books.
  • Demonstrates proper care of Library resources.
  • Locates picture books in the Library Media Center.
  • Chooses books related to personal interests.
