• Welcome to Ms. Gates' Webpage!

RESOURCES FOR STUDENTS WHILE THEY ARE NOT IN SCHOOL:

It is normal to feel stressed or anxious, especially now. However, we need to develop coping skills since stress/anxiety can negatively affect us both mentally and physically. Here are some strategies to try:

BREATHE: Taking 5 deep, slow inhales and exhales can be calming. https://yp4h.osu.edu/justbreathe is a website that might help.

REFRAMING OR REPHRASING: It is easy to listen to negative thoughts. If/when you are on a negative loop try changing it to a positive. Create your own mantra like "I AM HEALTHY AND I WILL STAY HEALTHY". Download the CALM app while it is free to help settle you mind.

STAY ACTIVE: distract yourself by going for a walk, cooking something new, reading... do whatever you enjoy all while practicing social distancing.

TALK TO SOMEONE: Tell an adult family member. Reach out to me (agates@wboro.org or 315-266-3165) or a teacher. Don't keep your feelings bottled up, let someone know what you are going through.

    • if you have an urgent mental health need contact 911 or the Mobile Crisis Assessment Team immediately. They are available 24-hours a day, 7-days a week.
