Whitesboro High School celebrated National French Week from Thursday, November 3 through Wednesday, November 9, 2022. Each day started with a fact about the French language and/or the Francophone culture followed by music from a Francophone artist. These artists ranged from Edith Piaf (Je ne regrette rien) to Le Vent du Nord (Au Bord de la Fontaine) to Stromae (Alors on Danse). Faculty members volunteered to be part of a Scavenger Hunt providing information as to how they have a connection with the French language and culture. The clues were written in French and the students had to decode them and discover which teacher was being described. Then, the student had to get the signature of the teacher. Those students who turned in completed answer sheets were entered into a drawing and won a gift bag with Francophone themed prizes. The winners were Gabby St. Pierre, Matt Brinck and Lauren Sfier. Félicitations!

Students were also given the opportunity to enter a poster contest centered around the national theme: Le Français: langue de la diversité - French: language of diversity. A winner was selected at each level of French: French 2- Kadence Heinlein, French 3- Casey Clausen, French 191- Katie Mullen. Très bon travail et félicitations à tous!

On the final day of National French week, all faculty, staff and French students were encouraged to wear blue, white and red- the tricolor- colors of the French flag. Students tested their knowledge about Francophone culture in class with various question and answer activities. They were invited to wear French berets, mustaches, etc. At the end of the day, those who signed up were able to enjoy a cheese tasting. There were six cheeses available to discover: brie, camembert, comté, chèvre, boursin, et roquefort. The cheeses were enjoyed with French baguettes, of course, and small pieces of toast along with sparkling grape juice, red and white. Students and staff reveled in the café atmosphere with the sounds of café music in the background and the smell of baguettes in the air. What a wonderful ending to National French week!!
