On Monday, February 27, the students in Mrs. Huther’s third-grade class were treated to a Japanese lunch. Their meal included pork Tonkatsu, chicken Tonkatsu, both served with Tonkatsu sauce, steamed Japanese rice with soy sauce, vegetable sushi, green tea iced tea, vanilla soy milk and an assortment of Pocky for dessert. Thank you to the Hart’s Hill PTO for funding for this homemade meal.

Since no forks were allowed at the luncheon, the students learned how to eat with chopsticks. Students also researched the geography, festivals, foods and fun facts of Japan and displayed posters demonstrating their knowledge. They had a blast celebrating their new knowledge of Japanese culture.

Another fun activity included the creation of carp banners to use for our celebration. The class will continue their education through learning to write haikus (Japanese poems) and making origami animals with Japanese paper before the end of the year.
