3/1/2023 - World Language Presentation
On March 1, the sixth grade students attended a presentation hosted by the World Language teachers at the Middle School. Department chair Karen Dean was accompanied by Shannen Discavage (Spanish), Liz Jennings (Spanish), Christina Murphy (Spanish) and Jessica Rowley (French and Spanish).
The teachers all shared important information on the benefits of taking a new language as well as which features to consider when choosing a language to study next year. Students were introduced to some of the cultural aspects of the language they will study including art, dance, sports, traditions and holidays, food, pop culture and iconic buildings and attractions.
Students were excited to learn that there are many hands-on activities in the classroom as well as extra opportunities to learn about their selected language and culture through field trips and by joining the international club in seventh and eighth grade.
Many students were also thrilled to learn that students continuing their language at the high school can earn the Seal of Biliteracy as well as up to twelve college credits through MVCC, which are widely accepted at colleges across the country.
Overall, it appears as though the sixth graders share a high level of enthusiasm over beginning their new language journey with their future teachers!
