5/19/2023 - Whitesboro High School Renaissance Club Hosts Spring Rally at Wadas Field
The Whitesboro High School Renaissance Club is making sure that academic excellence does not go unnoticed.
On May 19, the Spring Renaissance Rally was held at Wadas Field for students who had at least an 80 average in each of their classes for the third marking period. There were four hundred fifty students that met the criteria and they were rewarded with hamburgers, hot dogs, french fries, fried dough and a “Whitesboro” lanyard or wristband. The students also had the opportunity to win one of 70 prizes that were either donated by or purchased from local businesses.
“The mission of our program is to recognize, reward, and celebrate academic excellence,” said Renaissance Club Advisor and High School Math Teacher David Jecko. “We strive to increase student performance, promote an attitude of success, and strengthen the partnership between Whitesboro High School and our community.”
The Renaissance Club was able to pay for the event thanks to generous monetary donations from the New York State Correctional Officers and Police Benevolent Association (John Harmon), Optimist Club of Whitestown (John Hoke), Whitesboro Teachers Association, Whitesboro Employees Union and Whitesboro Administrators Organization. High School Principal Jeff Kuhn also secured additional funding for gift cards that were purchased from local businesses.
Dean’s Concessions, which is owned and operated by Lisa Dean; a social studies teacher at the high school, catered the Spring Rally. Members of The Optimist Club of Whitestown, over 40 teachers and students from the club volunteered their time during the rally to check students in, serve food and help supervise the event. A special thank you to Laura Harney and Michele Eberley who organized the prizes.
“I would like to thank our administration, teachers, and staff for their continued support of the Renaissance Rallies because without them, it would not be possible to hold these events,” added Mr. Jecko.
Congratulations to all of the students who qualified, and in many cases, exceeded the standards set by the Renaissance Club. Good luck to the graduating seniors and all of the student body on a successful rest of the school year!
