The Food and Nutrition classes at Whitesboro High School recently competed in the Second Annual Pizza Warriors Competition. Students learned to make pizza from scratch, then they put their culinary skills to the test by competing for the coveted title of Pizza Warriors.

The challenge spanned over four days, which began with brainstorming ideas for a creative, tasty pizza. Next, students created their recipes and shopping lists along with their plan of execution. On the third day, students prepped all of the ingredients for their pizzas. This included sauce, cheese, toppings and the dough. On the final day (Wednesday, December 20), the students baked their pizzas and presented them to four judges: three teachers/staff and a "celebrity" judge. Returning was local pizza mogul Jason Jaegers, owner of Big Jay's in Marcy and Rome. He sat in on the eating of all students' pizzas over the course of five classes to help crown the class winners and ultimately make the decision on the Pizza Warriors title.

The winners this year won a plaque made by technology teacher Mr. Ott, who 3D printed the Pizza Warriors logo. The winners were Maria Ogiyevych, Kateryna Lutsyk and Marianna Carino.

The winning pizza was cooked near perfection and topped with dill pickles and bacon. Congratulations, ladies!
