5/17/2024 - High School Renaissance Club Hosts Spring Rally
On May 17, the Spring Renaissance Rally was held at Wadas Field. This year was special because Mr. Kuhn and the committee wanted every student to experience the rally, in hopes that it would raise student motivation and increase the number of eligible students for future rallies. Students were served hamburgers, hot dogs, French fries and fried dough. The students also had the opportunity to win one of over 80 prizes that were either donated by or purchased from local businesses.
The criteria, set by the Renaissance Committee, for students to qualify for future rallies is at least an 80 average in each of their classes for the selected marking period.
“The mission of our program is to recognize, reward and celebrate academic excellence,” said Renaissance Club advisor and high school math teacher David Jecko. “We strive to increase student performance, promote an attitude of success and strengthen the partnership between Whitesboro High School and our community.”
The Renaissance Club was able to pay for the event thanks to generous monetary donations from the Optimist Club of Whitestown, Whitesboro Teachers Association, Whitesboro Employees Union and Whitesboro Administrators Organization. High school Principal Jeff Kuhn also secured additional funding to pay for the event, as well as gift cards that were purchased from local businesses.
Dean’s Concessions, which is owned and operated by Lisa Dean, a social studies teacher at the high school, catered the Spring Rally. Members of The Optimist Club of Whitestown, over 40 teachers and students from the club volunteered their time during the rally to check students in, serve food and help supervise the event. Alder Creek Beverages (Regina and Paul Rayhill) donated bottled water for all the students. A special thank you to Laura Harney and Michele Eberley, who organized the prizes, and Donna Kirch, who printed and distributed the student tickets.
“I would like to thank our administration, teachers and staff for their continued support of the Renaissance Rallies because without them, it would not be possible to hold these events,” added Jecko.
Good luck to the graduating seniors and the entire student body on a successful rest of the school year!
