5/20/2024 - Hart's Hill Second Grade Celebrates Better Speech and Hearing Month
On May 20, second grade students at Hart’s Hill Elementary School celebrated Better Hearing and Speech Month to raise awareness for people who have trouble hearing or speech difficulties.
Students read the book “A Birthday for Ben,” which focuses on the struggles that someone with a hearing loss may face in social situations. Throughout the book, students learned about how Ben overcame his challenges and was able to feel more inclusive with his peers.
After reading, the students learned some words in sign language, such as mother, father, family, friend, play, please and thank you. Ms. Brown then had the students try to complete the Unfair Spelling Test, which demonstrated how difficult it can be to hear certain sounds if you have a hearing loss.
In addition to everything the students learned, they also enjoyed a delicious treat from Mrs. Vennero (mom of Nico, CJ and Brynn), who helped to organize this event for our second graders.
Thank you to all who participated!
