Whitesboro CSD Celebrates Annual Big Apple Crunch
On October 10, the Whitesboro Central School District celebrated the annual Big Apple Crunch once again.
Now in its ninth year, the Big Apple Crunch is an annual initiative that not only provides students and staff with a delicious and nutritious apple to “crunch” into, but more importantly, it serves as an opportunity to recognize and appreciate the hard work and dedication that goes into the tireless work of local farmers and the agricultural community, who provide many of our day-to-day healthy, fresh foods. Participating school districts, stage agencies and businesses throughout New York State share the goal of celebrating and recognizing the importance of the Farm to School program, which allows for the purchase of fresh, local foods year-round thanks to the hard work of farmers and agricultural workers.
The District’s Food Service Department purchased the apples for this year’s Big Apple Crunch from North Star Orchards in Westmoreland, New York, a local business that has been a big supporter of this annual event.
