7th Grade Spanish Students Attend Flamenco Presentation at MVCC

On Wednesday, Nov. 14, 70 seventh-graders in Ms. O'Brien's Spanish classes attended a presentation on flamenco at the Utica campus of Mohawk Valley Community College.

Laurel Sonne, owner of Laurel's Dance Studio, talked about the different types of flamenco music and dancing, and performed for an audience of approximately 100 people. Students learned about the instruments, the characteristics of singing flamenco, and the outfits worn by flamenco dancers.

One of the students in Ms. O'Brien's fifth period class, Gianna Spartano, volunteered to go up and learn how to use castanets in front of the entire audience.

A special thank you goes to Mr. Egresits for approving the field trip; Mr. Slatton, Mrs. Sacco and Ms. Hage for chaperoning the students; the Transportation Department for providing two buses to and from MVCC; and to the PTA for assistance in funding the field trip!
