Disability Awareness Mini Walk Held at Marcy Elementary
During the week of April 8-11, students at Marcy Elementary participated Disability Awareness Mini Walk during their physical education classes.
Students walked or ran laps around the gym during one class, and during their second PE class that week they walked for half of it and the second half was spent making bracelets. Each of the students got to pick out beads to make their bracelets, and each bracelet was made using 13 beads to represent the 13 recognized categories of disabilities.
During the same week, students also brought in change to donate, and all of the proceeds collected will be donated to the Kelberman Center in Utica.
The Disability Awareness Mini Walk was held during the month of April because April is National Autism Awareness Month.
