The Whitesboro Varsity Hockey team ended the regular season on a strong note by defeating division rival, Cortland-Homer, 3-1 on Senior Night on February 10.
After falling behind 1-0 at the end of the second period, Whitesboro came out firing in the third, scoring all three of its goals in the third period. Matt Morreale put two pucks into the back of the net for the Warriors and Ryan Suwek added another. They were assisted by Brandon DePerno, Jacob Hyer and Brenden Sand. Danny Turck scored Cortland-Homer’s lone goal.
Whitesboro, who skated to a 1-1 tie with Cortland-Homer earlier this season, finishes the regular season at 6-12-2 overall and in fourth place in the Division II American (4-8-1). Cortland-Homer, who has two games left in the regular season, is 5-10-1 overall and in fifth place in the Division II American (1-10-1).
Whitesboro still has a chance to qualify for sectionals. The Warriors will learn their fate on February 15, after a seeding meeting.
Congratulations to the Warriors on the big Senior Night win!
