Girls Varsity Basketball Team Defeats Carthage, Advances to Semis

The Whitesboro Girls Varsity Basketball team’s quest for a section title is still very much alive after defeating Carthage 42-29 in a Class A Section III quarterfinal game at home on February 20.

The outcome was never in doubt, as Whitesboro led 17-4 after the first quarter and 24-8 at halftime. Senior Maria Lapertosa had another big game for the Lady Warriors, scoring a game high 21 points. Peyton Romig scored 12 points for Carthage.  Girls Varsity Basketball Defeats Carthage

Whitesboro, who’s riding a season high 10 game winning streak, is now 16-5. With the win over Carthage, the Lady Warriors advance to the Class A Section III semifinals and will play Camden on Saturday, February 28. Camden (15-4) is on a roll as well, having won 8 of its last 9 games. The semifinal game will take place at Allyn Gym at Onondaga Community College (OCC). A start time has yet to be announced.

The Whitesboro-Camden winner will advance to the Class A Section III championship game on March 7 and will play either Jamesville-Dewitt or Indian River. The championship game is taking place at OCC’s SRC Arena.
