Boys Varsity Basketball Team Defeats Rival New Hartford, Will Play Notre Dame Next
Thanks to its third win in as many games over rival New Hartford this season, the Whitesboro Boys Varsity Basketball team is moving onto the next round of sectionals. Whitesboro defeated New Hartford 61-50 in a Class A Section III first round game at home on February 20. The boys took the court after Whitesboro’s Girls Varsity Basketball team defeated Carthage 42-29.
Whitesboro raced out to a 16-8 lead after the first quarter and never looked back. Whitesboro senior, T.J. Borza, also made history in the big game. Borza finished the game with four three pointers and 14 points. Senior Luke Moore also nailed four three pointers for the Warriors and had a game high 18 points. Nate Salisbury chipped in 11 points for the Warriors. Frankie Policelli led New Hartford with 14 points.
Whitesboro (15-5) advances to the Class A Section III quarterfinals and will play another TVL rival, Notre Dame (16-3). The game is taking place at Notre Dame on Tuesday, February 24. Tip-off is scheduled for 7 p.m.
The quarterfinal match up will mark the third time Whitesboro and Notre Dame have met this season. Notre Dame won the first two meetings 60-47 and 77-63.
The Whitesboro-Notre Dame winner will play either Oneida or Christian Brothers Academy in the semifinals at Onondaga Community College’s SRC Arena on March 1.
