UPDATE: Boys Wrestling, Boys Bowling, Boys Nordic Ski and Gymnastics Teams All Send Players to States

The Whitesboro Boys Varsity Wrestling, Boys Varsity Bowling, Boys Varsity Nordic Ski and Gymnastic teams are all concluding successful seasons by sending players to states.

Boys Varsity Wrestling:

Four wrestlers placed in the Section III Championships.

Tyler Hudson – 1st place at 220 pounds
Joe Modonia – 3rd place at 285 pounds
Jeff Marraffa – 3rd place at 126 pounds
Walter Grzesik – 5th place at 182 pounds

Tyler Hudson will be competing in the state meet, in Albany, on February 27 and 28.

Boys Varsity Bowling:

The team finished the regular season in first place in the TVL with a 10-3 overall record and 8-2 league record. The team also won the TVL Tournament.

Mark Morreale led the TVL with 217 pins per game. During the season, Morreale also bowled a perfect 300 game and a career best 777 series against Proctor at Vista Lanes on January 9. Mark Morreale, Josh Zaleski, Jordan DiPierro and Josh Clark were all named 1st Team All-Stars.

In the Section III Tournament, the team finished 11th overall out of 25 schools and third in Class B.

Mark Morreale is representing Whitesboro at states on March 8. He’s part of the Section III composite team, which is made up of the high average bowlers from the section.
 
Update:  The Section III composite team, which included Whitesboro's Mark Morreale, finished 6th at states. The competition took place at AMF Strike 'N Spare in Syracuse.

Boys Varsity Nordic Ski:

A number of boys participated in sectionals.

Day 1 – 10k Boys:
Dave DeCola – 12th
Josh Stuhlman – 17th
Bryan Williams – 19th

Day 1 – Team Result:
5th place

Day 2 – 2k Sprint Relay:
Dave DeCola – 6th
Josh Stuhlman – 15th
Bryan Williams – 18th

David DeCola placed 10th in the Section III rankings and qualified for the NYS Nordic Ski Championships in Lake Placid on February 23 and 24.

Update:  David DeCola placed 48th in the 10k at the NYS Nordic Ski Championships in Lake Placid. He finished 47th in the 3k Sprint.

Gymnastics:

The team won the sectional title for Best Small Team on October 24.

Three gymnasts, 7th grader Taylor Bushey, 8th grader Emma McQueen and 9th grader Tiffany Khiamdavanh, were named to/qualified for the state team. They, along with five other girls from different schools, will represent Section III in states on February 28 at Kenmore West High School in Buffalo.
