The Whitesboro Girls Varsity Track 4x400m team is headed to the State Qualifier Meet after an impressive win at sectionals on May 27 at Camden.
The team, consisting of freshmen Marissa Burke and Cailyn Onate and juniors Taylor Klosek and Halia Todd, won the 4x400m relay with a time of 4 minutes and 15 seconds - - just a second and a half off of the school record.
Klosek, Burke and Todd will all be making their first trip to the State Qualifier Meet. Onate will be making her second trip. Burke will also compete in the high jump at the qualifier meet, after a jump of five feet, two inches at the Tri Valley League Meet.
Also advancing to the State Qualifier Meet for Whitesboro is junior Justyna Wilkinson and senior Emilie Mull. Wilkinson, who will be making her second trip to the State Qualifier Meet, won the 2,000m steeplechase at sectionals, with a time of seven minutes and twenty-one seconds. She has also qualified to run in the 1,500m and 3,000m runs at the qualifier meet.
Mull will compete in shot put at the State Qualifier Meet, after a throw of 32 feet, 8.75 inches was good enough for first place at sectionals.
As a team, the Whitesboro Girls Varsity Track team placed fourth out of nine teams at sectionals, behind Jamesville-Dewitt, Carthage and East Syracuse-Minoa.
The State Qualifier Meet is on June 5 at Cicero-North Syracuse High School, and is scheduled to start at 4 p.m.
Congratulations to the entire Whitesboro Girls Varsity Track team, and best of luck to those competing in the State Qualifier Meet!
