Whitesboro Alum Highlighted in Sports Illustrated Magazine

Former Whitesboro student-athlete and Class of 2011 member, Elena Ciccarelli, is receiving national attention.

Ciccarelli, who was born deaf and who recently graduated from Gallaudet University, a Division III college in Washington, D.C., was featured in the “Faces of the Crowd” column in the June edition of Sports Illustrated.  Elena Ciccarelli

As noted in the magazine, Ciccarelli became the first athlete in Gallaudet University history to play three sports for four consecutive years - - soccer, basketball and softball. She had 60 career starts as a fullback on the soccer team, averaged 5.2 points and 6.8 rebounds per game as a forward on the basketball team and batted .216 with a .939 fielding percentage as an outfielder on the softball team. Ciccarelli was also a member of the 2010-11 Whitesboro Girls Varsity Basketball Section Championship team.

The Whitesboro Central School District would like to congratulate Elena on all of her amazing accomplishments and for overcoming challenging obstacles along the way! We look forward to Elena continuing to make “The” Whitesboro High School and surrounding community proud.
