Harlem Globetrotter Zeus McClurkin Visits Deerfield Elementary to Talk Anti-Bullying Efforts
Deerfield Elementary School is working to incorporate the importance of kindness into this year’s PARP program, which kicked off on Jan. 25.
As part of the PARP program, on Thursday, Jan. 31, Julian “Zeus” McClurkin of the Harlem Globetrotters visited the school to talk to students about some anti-bullying efforts and the importance of being kind to one another.
McClurkin taught students about the Harlem Globetrotters’ TEAM approach to bullying: Talk, Empathize, Ask a Question, and Mobilize. Students learned about the importance of having someone they can talk to, such as their parents or teachers, and also about what it means to be empathetic.
McClurkin was able to talk to students about anti-bullying measures in a way that allowed them to have fun, by using humor and encouraging their participation in the discussion. Some lucky students and teachers were even taught a few basketball tricks, and McClurkin showed off some of his own skills that included dunking a basketball.
Thank you to Julian “Zeus” McClurkin for taking the time to visit Deerfield Elementary School, and for helping to further the discussion on an important topic!
