Middle School Hosts Second Annual Science and Tech Academy

Nearly thirty students in grades six, seven and eight had the opportunity to learn more about the STEM fields (science, technology, engineering and math) during the second annual Youth Science and Tech Academy held at Whitesboro Middle School. The summer camp is a joint venture with Mohawk Valley Community College (MVCC) and it's sponsored by Bank of America and National Grid.

During the first week of the summer camp, Science and Tech Academy 101, held from July 22-26, fourteen students learned about basic electronics, nanotechnology, water rockets and solar cars, then finished the week with a field trip to tour MVCC’s labs.

During the second week of the summer camp, Science and Tech Academy 102, from July 29-Aug. 2, thirteen students who attended the 101 program had the opportunity to learn about drones, laser engraving, electronics and solar ovens. They rounded off the week with a visit to Danfoss on SUNY Polytechnic Institute’s campus.

The Science and Tech Academy was taught by Mrs. Butka, a science teacher; Mr. Casler and Mr. French, both tech teachers; and Mr. Tinkler, a math teacher.

Thank you to everyone who helped make this program a success once again.
