Buddy Bench Donated to West. Rd. Elementary in Honor of Officer Kevin Crossley

On Oct. 28, a ceremony was held on the playground at Westmoreland Elementary School to dedicate a new Buddy Bench in honor of Officer Kevin Crossley.

Officer Crossley, who was a member of both the Whitesboro and Whitestown police departments, was killed in an on-duty crash in April 2018. He was a lifelong Whitesboro resident and a former student at Westmoreland Road Elementary.

The Buddy Bench was donated to the school through the Kevin “Bing” Crossley Memorial Foundation, a fund that was created through The Community Foundation of Herkimer & Oneida Counties. The Crossley family and several local police officers attended the dedication ceremony, along with all of the students and staff at Westmoreland Road Elementary.

A Buddy Bench is an initiative to eliminate loneliness and foster friendship and inclusion on the playground. If a student needs someone to talk to or a friend to play with, they can sit on the Buddy Bench as a message to the other students and staff that they’re feeling lonely. It’s an effective way to help students who may not otherwise seek out the help and companionship of others.

Thank you to the Crossley family for the donation of the Buddy Bench, and for taking the time to visit Westmoreland Road Elementary.
