Whitesboro Senior Reannyn Weiler Bears US Flag for Youth Olympics Opening Ceremony in Switzerland

Reannyn Weiler, a senior at Whitesboro High School who competes in luge, was chosen to carry the flag for Team USA at one of two opening ceremonies for the 2020 Winter Youth Olympic Games in Switzerland. The games, which run Jan 10-22, are being held in Lausanne and St. Moritz, Switzerland, and Weiler was chosen to carry the American flag at the ceremony in St. Moritz on Jan. 9.

Seventeen-year-old Weiler is competing in women’s doubles luge along with teammate Maya Chan of Chicago, Illinois. In January 2019, Weiler and Chan won a bronze medal competing in the test event in St. Moritz.

“I was super honored to be out there holding the flag and it was a really fun time I had with my team tonight,” Weiler said in a video, which can be found here. “I was super excited and honestly honored by the fact that I was able to do it, so it was just overall really cool.”

Weiler and Chan are scheduled to compete in the women’s doubles luge event on Saturday, Jan. 18.

The Youth Olympic Games are for elite athletes ages 15-18, and they’re held every two years. There are 99 athletes competing for Team USA in the current games.
