Seniors Honored as Students of the Month by Optimist Club of Whitestown
Six Whitesboro High School seniors have been honored as Students of the Month by the Optimist Club of Whitestown for the 2021-2022 school year.
The Student of the Month for October is Carson Cook. Carson’s extracurricular activities include National Honor Society, Jazz Band, Pep Band, A capella Choir, Full Orchestra, Chamber Choir, Barbershop Quartet, Saxophone Ensemble, and Blue and White Revue. Carson has also performed in the school musical; participated in the NYSSMA Solo Festival for voice, piano and saxophone; and served as Symphonic Band President and Historian as well as Class President.
Carson has been awarded the Le Moyne College Heights Award, and took first place in the DAR Christopher Columbus Essay Contest, second place in the DAR Constitution Essay Contest and third place in the Utica College Regional Science Fair. Carson also represented Whitesboro in the 9th grade Junior High All-County Band, 10th grade Area All-State Choir and 12th grade Conference All-State Mixed Chorus.
Carson’s community service includes serving as a medical volunteer in Ghana, church pianist and organist, vocation bible school helper, math tutor, Christmas on Main Street musician, New Hartford Senior High carnival worker and volunteering with Operation Christmas Child.
The Student of the Month for November is Anthony DiSpirito. Anthony’s extracurricular activities include Varsity Ice Hockey, travel hockey and lacrosse, Varsity Club, International Club, National Honor Society, Band and Morning Announcements. Anthony also serves at captain of the lacrosse team.
Anthony has been awarded the George Eastman Young Leaders Award and Can-Am Coaches Award, was named a Tri-Valley Lacrosse Second-Team All-Star and participated in All-County Band.
Anthony’s community service includes volunteering with religious education, Utica Rescue Mission Walk, bingo with seniors at the Masonic Nursing Home, Westmoreland Road Fun Day, Kernan Elementary School, Whitesboro street cleaning, and luncheons and skates with USA Blind Hockey and CABVI. Anthony also coaches Learn to Skate in Whitestown and fifth and sixth grade lacrosse, as well as donating to the Utica Food Pantry and Rotary Club Food Drives and working as a cart boy at Crestwood Golf Club.
The Student of the Month for January is Julie Hong. Julie’s extracurricular activities include Art Club, International Club, Model UN, Smoke Signal, National Honor Society, cross country and Utica Maennerchor German Dance Club. Julie has also participated in the school musical “Thoroughly Modern Millie” and served as Vice President of Bridge Builders.
At the Utica College 41st Annual Regional Science Fair, Julie was awarded Best Use of the International System of Units by the US Metric Association and a Certificate of Outstanding Achievement for Ability and Creativity in In Vitro Biology by the Society for In Vitro Biology. Julie has also been named to the Academic Honor Roll.
Julie’s community service includes volunteering at Westmoreland Road Fun Day and Pancake Breakfast fundraisers for cross country, as well as working at Roll Roll Ice Cream.
The Student of the Month for March is Carolyn Manna. Carolyn’s extracurricular activities include field hockey, lacrosse, Ski Club, orchestra, Red Cross Club, International Club and National Honor Society.
Carolyn has been awarded fourth place in the Utica College Science Fair and was named a Scholar Athlete.
Carolyn’s community service includes volunteering at Memorial Day flag distribution and Mother’s Day weekend breakfast with Legion 1113, Saint Paul’s Church and Whitesboro Football. Carolyn also works at Riverside Pools and Countryside Stores.
The Student of the Month for April is Louis Misiaszek. Louis’ extracurricular activities include JV/Varsity Football, JV/Varsity Baseball, American Legion Baseball, Model UN, Symphonic Band, Jazz Band and National Honor Society.
Louis has been awarded two Superior A by the Piano Guild, the Clarkson University Academic Achievement Award, second and fourth place at the Utica College Science Fair by the American Meteorological Society and Asa Gray Biological Society, The Copernicus Award, the Sally Lachut Majka ’61 & Donald Majka Award in Earth Science or Conservation, the Siwi Stockholm Junior Regional Water Prize Award, the Office of Naval Research Naval Science Award and the NASA Earth System Science Award.
Louis works as a busser at the Spaghetti Kettle and an abstractor for Chain and Link Abstract Corp.
The Student of the Month for May is Glenvelis Perez. Glenvelis’ extracurricular activities include dance; Today’s Students, Tomorrow’s Teachers; Drama Club, Junior Frontiers of the Mohawk Valley, Choir, International Club and the school newspaper. Glenvelis also serves as Vice President of Please Stand Up.
Glenvelis has been named to the Principal’s List and recognized as Student of the Month.
Glenvelis’ community service includes NROTC (Navy Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps), the Johnson Park Center Food Pantry and MVCC Math Corps Summer Camp Program
